Paris Saint-Germain is about to sign a new keeper in Lille star Lucas Chevalier who could plain the way for Gianluigi Donnarumma to become a member of Manchester United
Gianluigi Donnarumma is said to be interested in joining Manchester United, in which Paris Saint-Germain is closed when signing a new keeper. Donnarumma is generally considered one of the best keepers in the world and he has played a key role in the recent success of PSG.
The captain of Italy made 47 performances in all competitions last season and helped PSG to win the Champions League, Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France when they became the first French club to win a continental Trebleble.
However, Donnarumma only stands up to a contract until 2026 and conversations about a new deal seem to have stalled. According to a report from L'Equipe, PSG has agreed a deal to sign Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.
The report states that a reimbursement of € 40 million (£ 35 million) has been agreed for the 23-year-old, excluding bonuses. PSG hopes to complete the transfer on time for their European Super Cup collision against Tottenham on 13 August.
As a result, Donnarumma seems to be leaving in Paris this summer and TeamTalk reports that United has 'formally registered their interest'. The report states that United believes that a deal would be 'very difficult' at the moment, but that could change.
Van Donnarumma would be a move to Old Trafford because of the status of United, even though they will not participate in the Champions League next season and find out their worst Premier League finish.
Andre Onana is currently the first-choice keeper of United, but he has been attacked since he came to the club from Inter Milan in 2023 after making a series of high-profile errors. And when he was asked for his future earlier this summer, Onana said, “Shall I leave? I don't know, we'll see!”
United Baas Ruben Amorim, however, has supported Onana to enjoy a much improved campaign this year. “I think even when you talk about Andre, you can see the keepers,” Amorim told reporters.
“Even Tom [Heaton] Is slimmer, he is another keeper. Altay [Bayindir] It was really good, and Onana gets better, like the other boys, this year. I think we are better in the organization of the organization of the organization in the day to day.
“The food is better, the way we cook, what we eat, how we prepare training. I think we are more organized. I think we now have people who help us be better. I am not worried about small things and I was last year.
“So those things help us and help me think more about watching the game, viewing the team. So it's a big help for me. If it's a big help for the technical staff, it's a big help for the players.”
