Morgan Gibbs-White did not travel to the pre-season training camp of Nottingham Forest in Portugal due to a private issue.
The attacking midfielder is a target for Tottenham, who thought they had activated a £ 60 million release clause in his contract earlier this month, but the move was stopped dramatically when Forest threatened to report Spurs to the Premier League for an alleged 'illegal' approach.
Mail Sport can confirm that Gibbs-White was not part of the forest team who left England this morning, although it is clear that this was not related to the transfer.
At this stage, Forest still expects Gibbs-White to join his teammates later this week.
The 25-year-old returned to the training on July 14 and had conversations with club officials. It is thought that he has shown an excellent attitude since reporting for duty, although it was believed that Gibbs-White wanted his future to be resolved before the first team group left for Portugal.
Gibbs-White played the first half of Forest's Pre-season in Chesterfield on July 19 and received a hot reception by supporters. He responded with his own gesture of gratitude.
Mail Sport learned in January that Gibbs-White opposed the attempts of Forest to offer him a new deal that would have doubled at least £ 60,000 a week's salary.
Earlier in the summer it seemed that Gibbs-White would join Manchester City, although that path became cold at the time and still had to be revived.
In the meantime, Wolves would have been made about 10 percent of each profit forest by selling Gibbs-White, after they had signed him from the Molineux club three years ago for a first £ 25 million.
It is thought that a second offer from Tottenham of about £ 65 million was discussed, although not yet submitted, and it is unclear whether this would be sufficient to change the attitude of the forest.
Forest has already lost an important attacking player this summer after Anthony Elanga was sold to Newcastle for £ 55 million last week, and the departure of Gibbs-White would force Nuno to renew his attacking plans.
The club still hopes that Callum Hudson-Odoi, who is without a contract in the summer, will sign a new deal, while Forest is interested in Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey and James Mcatee from Manchester City.
