Match report
Nuri Sahin's team scored a goal twenty minutes into the second half thanks to a beautiful solo effort by Jamie Gittens, but was denied by a penalty from Kevin Stoger six minutes later.
Dortmund have taken just two points from their six away games in the league and are fifth in the table, 12 points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
Gladbach, meanwhile, are 11th in the Bundesliga with 18 points and were also reduced to 10 men in stoppage time after substitute Tomas Cvancara grabbed two bookings in as many minutes in the 89th minute.
The home side almost got the winner nine minutes before the end, although Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel was able to tap Robin Hack's shot onto the crossbar to keep the team level.
It was Dortmund themselves who ended the match by applying most of the pressure, although they were unable to make a breakthrough, continuing the away problems.

Data debrief: In-form Gittens cannot end Dortmund's away funk
Twenty-year-old Gittens has now scored in four consecutive games in all competitions for Dortmund and has a total of nine goals for the season.
But even his rich form was unable to give his side a first away win of the season in the Bundesliga.
They are now one of only five teams in the league not to have won on the road.
