Jack Grealisk dedicated his goal against Leicester City to his brother on the 25th anniversary of his death.
Grealisk was four when his younger brother or sister, Keelan, died, nine months old, in April 2000.
The International of England opened the score for Manchester City in their 2-0 win against the Foxes in the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday and placed on Instagram after the game.
He wrote: “Always with me, especially this day. That was for you, Keelan.”
Stadsbaas Pep Guardiola paid tribute to Grealish's Bravery after the game and described him as an “incredible person”.
Grealisk scored his first Premier League goal since December 2023, when he scored in three games in a row. His opener after just 109 seconds is also the earliest goal of City, because Phil Foden scored against West Ham after 79 seconds in May 2024 after 79 seconds.
Guardiola was also full of praise for the performance of his midfielder and suggested that there could be more opportunities in a central role.
Guardiola said: “I didn't know [about the anniversary]. I can't imagine how difficult it can be for mom and dad, his sister and the whole family.
“Jack is an incredible person. It's good that he remembers him this day. I am pretty sure that they remember it every day.
“He scored a goal and made a good game. He likes to play in the middle.
“He is a man who used to play for free. He plays comfortably on the side. He always has power between the lines. I am happy for him.
“I know it's not easy if you don't play regularly. He played the last game in the FA Cup really well.”
