Atlético Madrid will respect any decision Antoine Griezmann makes regarding his future. The French striker has earned the right to determine his own destiny and choose what best suits his interests.
Speculation about his future surfaces from time to time, but much of it remains unfounded. At this point, no decision has been made on what Griezmann will do for the 2025-2026 season.
Griezmann has agreed with Atlético management to make his decision at the end of March. Until then, all parties are focused on the team's performance: securing victories, competing for the league title and aiming for success in both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. The team comes first.
Key to Simeone's system
As the season progresses, Griezmann's choice will become clearer. At 33, soon to turn 34 in March, only he will determine whether he has the desire and strength to continue playing at the top level for another season, especially in an Atlético team with growing competition for starting roles. The forward has a contract until June 2026, meaning he could stay at the club for another year if he decides to stay. All options will be discussed.
For manager Diego Simeone, Griezmann is virtually irreplaceable. Few players possess his combination of quality, talent, team spirit and work ethic. He knows Simeone's style and philosophy inside and out and earns the respect of his teammates, opponents, fans and club directors.
If Griezmann decides to stay, he will fulfill his contract until 2026. However, if he feels it is time to move on, Atlético will respect his decision and leave the door open for his departure.
Griezmann's American Dream
Griezmann has long expressed a desire to play in Major League Soccer (MLS). He has also stated that Atlético would be his last European club. Whether he makes the jump to MLS at the end of this season or after next season remains uncertain. For now, his performance remains excellent.
Recently, LAFC striker Olivier Giroud confirmed that “we know there have already been talks, it would be great to meet Hugo (Lloris), the three of us, in Los Angeles”.
What is Griezmann's record this season?
This season, Griezmann has made 25 appearances in all competitions (18 in La Liga, six in the Champions League and one in the Copa del Rey). He scored eleven goals (seven in La Liga and four in Europe) and provided six assists (four in La Liga and two in the Champions League). His productivity remains remarkably high.
Simeone has managed Griezmann's workload carefully. In the final stages of matches, the coach often replaces him, being aware of the influence of fatigue on the attacker during the critical stretch of last season. Atlético's deeper bench, with the likes of Sorloth, Correa and Giuliano, allows Simeone to rotate his squad while Griezmann remains fresh and effective.
Griezmann remains crucial for Atlético, a true club legend. At the end of March he will decide whether he will continue scoring goals in the iconic red and white jersey or start a new chapter in the United States.
