Grimbsy Town -Baas David Artell described Manchester United as an “incredible team” after the gigantic murder on Wednesday evenings.
United came the second round in the Carabao Cup because of their failures to qualify for Europe last season, but they were tough favorites to continue to the next round against Grimsby.
Grimsby did not read the script and had an advantage of two goals in the break. Ruben Amorim looked like the performance of his team and made a triple change for the second half, which United helped to return to the game.
Bryan Mbeumo was introduced from the bank and scored to bring the score to 2-1, while Mason Mount supplied the ball in the box for Harry Maguire's Late Equalizer to force a penalty shootout.
Grimsby, however, prevailed in the shooting to bring an embarrassing defeat to United.
“A long penalty shootout,” said Grimsby -Baas Artell during his interview with ITV Sport. “I said halfway through the shootout, the first round last year we defeated Bradford 9-8 on punishment. I said before the penalty shootout started, look, what is a penalty shootout?
“It's technical, it's a psychological thing. You have brilliant techniques. We work hard every day to get better. It is slightly above the front door.
“Another chance to get better and this group wants to get better. The techniques are fine, they will feel nervous to walk up, butterflies. Don't worry about that.
“This is an accumulation of 15 months, 18 months, all in one night. Look, they are an incredible team, Manchester United. They have an incredible manager and they are on the right track, you can see that.
“We also have an incredible group of players who want to play for this football club, live in the area and want to get better every day.”
