Guardiola admits Man City are in a fight to stay in UCL after Juventus defeat

Pep Guardiola admitted Manchester City are in a battle to avoid an early exit from the Champions League after another defeat on Wednesday evening.

Juventus defeated the 2023 Treble winners with goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Leeds United flopped Weston McKennine, leaving City in 22nd place with two games remaining.

The top 24 qualify for the knockouts and City travel to Paris Saint-Germain next month before concluding the group stage at home to Club Brugge.

“It's the target,” Guardiola said. 'We need one point, three points. Go to Paris to try and then the last game at home.

'This is the situation because of the match against Feyenoord. Feyenoord caused problems when it was 3-0 with fifteen minutes to go.

'If we turn this around, we will not forget this period. We will appreciate more what we have done and what we will do in the future.”

City have lost seven of their last 10 games in all competitions and Ilkay Gundogan showed confidence is fragile before they face rivals Manchester United this weekend.

'Trust is a big part of that and that is a mental issue. Sometimes we miss the ball and you immediately see us fall and lose the rhythm,” Gundogan said. “It's having such a big effect on us right now. We always do the wrong things at the crucial moments.

'I have the feeling that sometimes we are a bit careless in the matches, that we overcomplicate things and miss the right timing.

'In transition we give them counter-attacks every time and chase for 50-60 meters. We're not built for that, we're built for ownership.”

Guardiola added: 'I doubt myself in the good and bad moments. The locker room is stable. You have to get up. What can we do? Do you feel sorry for ourselves? It's life, it happens.'
