Pep Guardiola does not believe that rebuilding on his side of Manchester City will be the most difficult challenge of his career after a non -inspiring season.
Four-time defending champions City are 20 points on drift from the Premier League top, who suffered their eighth league defeat from 2024-25 on Sunday against leaders Liverpool.
This is the furthest city that has been from the top of the table at the end of a competition day since July 14, 2020, when they left 21 points behind the last title -winning team of Liverpool.
City was also dumped from the Champions League last week by Real Madrid, which means that the FA Cup offers their only remaining shot on silverware this campaign.
De Wil van Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish, Ilkay Gundogan and Ederson-Alle Trouwe Stalwarts of the Treble-Winning Team of 2022-23-are all linked to outputs.
But when he was asked if the upcoming rebuilding of City represented the most difficult task of his coaching career, Guardiola said: “No. We have already done it.
“After nine years this is not the same team where we started nine years ago. We have already done it two or three times, so it's not the biggest challenge.
“The biggest was when I started my management career for the first time with my staff and many tasks we had.
“We were together and proven to myself and our employees that we could do it.”

City, who visit Tottenham for their next Premier League match on Wednesday, has already started the process of renewing their team, making four signing sessions in the middle season.
Defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vorror Reis, midfielder Nico Gonzalez and Vooruit Omar Marmoush all came for important costs, and Guardiola has so far been satisfied with their screenings.
“They were really good for the short time they had in training, really good,” said Guardiola.
“Khusanov arrived and played against Chelsea, Newcastle, Real Madrid, Liverpool – all difficult and difficult schemes from where they [new signings] Come away.
“Khusanov does not speak English fluently, so the impact is good. Omar has also played Nico less, but they have been really good.
“We are satisfied and of course Vitor, if he has had minutes, it is a good level that he shows.”
