Guardiola will ‘take a break’ from football when his time at club ends

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed to Sky Sports that he “takes a break” of football when he leaves the club, but he will not retire.

In the hours before City's Home Premier League match against Wolves, quotes from Guardiola were created in an ESPN Brasil interview where he promised to “stop” when he left his role as a man City boss and was not sure if he would retire.

The Spaniard signed a new deal in the Etihad Stadium in November and tied the club for two more seasons until June 2027.

Asked to clarify his comments from Sky Sports prior to the game to Wolves, Guardiola said: “I didn't say that I left now or at the end of the season. If they fire me, then!

“I said that if I finish my time here, I don't know, two, three, four, five or years, I don't know, I will take a break, so I am not retired, but I will certainly take a break.”

He added: “Do you know what a two -year contract means for a manager in football? It is an eternity, so what I say is that when I am ready here, I will take a break.

“I will have to stop, that's all.”

Ex-man Michards Staddentiger Michards then made jokes with Guardiola that he would have to stay another 10 years, but a smiling Guardiola replied: “It is not going to happen.”

Guardiola took a year off before he left Barcelona before he came to Bayern Munich in 2013.

Pep critically about his management this season

The Spaniard has enjoyed a trophy-loaded time in City since he took the lead in 2016, including six Premier League titles and a Champions League.

But City has been of the pace this season, are 21 points behind the Premier League champions Liverpool and step to stay in the Champions League places, although they can still win silverware with a FA Cup final to meet Crystal Palace in Wembley on 17 May.

Guardiola believes that their injury season, which included a Winless Run without seven games, has been a “good experience” for him.

He said Sky Sports: “What happened in November and December when we were unable to win games, of course I thought,” What can I do? “

“I didn't click, I found no way because I had the feeling that the players are still following me, but I didn't find the problems.

“I often said, when we won the Premier League in the previous season, we always had problems, we always had injuries, but not this incredible amount.

'I don't know when a team can maintain without having the best player in the world [Rodri] The entire season, and the best player in the Premier League last season – Phil (Foden) had injury problems. Kevin (De Bruyne) returned at the end.

“There was a moment with four central defenders, so it's hard to keep up every three days.

“But I should have found something, but I didn't find it.

“For example, (James) McATee and Nico O'RiLey did not play and they played in the last period, so why didn't they play, I now ask myself.

“They proved that I was wrong and they could play and I didn't do it, so I didn't think the way to do it. It was a good experience for me, and hopefully I can be a little more brilliant next season to find more comfortable positions with the players, and hopefully we can end this season with the FA Cup, and especially qualify for the Champions League.”

Carra: Pep earns the break of a year

Jamie Carragher of Sky Sports believes that the 54-year-old will “earn” a break when he takes one.

He told Sky Sports News: “I think they will have the reset in terms of what they will do on the market in the summer, and there was a lot of talk about Pep might leave this season, but he signed a contract this season.

“Everyone who works with him tells you how intense he is, so uncertain players cannot tolerate that for that long. That is why there is a lot of change in Manchester City in terms of staff. If someone is not happy, they will be moved fairly quickly, because although Pep is the most successful coach that we have probably ever seen and probably will ever see.

“It's hard to work with him, so you can imagine what it's like if he has taken his work home, and he's been here for a long time.

“He has been very successful and he deserves a one -year break if he needs it – if he feels that he needs one, he needs one.”
