Liverpool is supposed to close a deal to sign Marc Guehi for rivals for his characteristic and Carabao Cup final opponents Newcastle United.
Guehi, 24, looks like the market of summer transfer, but Mirror Sport understand that Guehi now prefers a relocation to Liverpool for other lovers. It is not only colleague Wembley finalists Newcastle who are also enthusiastic, such as Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham are all admirers of the player.
This is not the first time that Liverpool has shown interest in Crystal Palace Talisman Guehi, but it seems that Arne Slot could very well succeed where Jurgen Klopp could not. And with the future of Virgil van Dijk at Anfield uncertainly while his contract is getting closer to the summer, Guehi could fulfill a considerable gap in the defense of Slot.
The defender of England has previously spoken strongly about the Reds, which currently lead the Premier League with 15 points with nine games to go this period. And a victory in the Carabao Cup final against the Magpies on Sunday, Guehi can further show that choosing Liverpool above the Eddie Howe team is the smarter move.
It was in 2023 that the Palace Star praised Liverpool and told Palace TV (via the Liverpool Echo): “I don't think there is really a good time to play Liverpool. Everyone knows how strong they are as a team, they have some fantastic players.”
Klopp still managed Liverpool when the club first saw a movement for the middle back, which in 2021 came to Palace from Chelsea for £ 18 million. Guehi was high on Klopp's wish list at the beginning of 2024, because the German boss believed that the palace man had the potential to be the long -term replacement for Joel Matip.
Klopp, however, chose the transparency of the transfer plan, when the interest in Guehi came into existence last year in January, the former Reds manager suddenly announced that he would resign at the end of the season.
Despite the final departure of Matip from Liverpool last summer and the subsequent retirement of football, it is assumed that the interest of the Reds in Guehi has remained strong behind the scenes.
The Exit van Klopp may have been an important factor in Liverpool, following their interest in Guehi last summer, but the board is certainly ready to support a lock with an £ 80 million movement in the pipeline.
In the meantime, Van Dijk – who is celebrating his 34th birthday in July – has recently tried to suppress some fear of his future when he said: “As long as I am calm for you, it is not necessary to panic, what could happen in the future. If I was afraid that you would see me playing a bit, that is not the case.”
There were questions when Van Dijk was shown with chat with PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi and Sporting Director Luis Campos after the exit of Liverpool's Champions League by the French giants. Later, however, it was indicated that Van Dijk only apologized for comments after the match aimed at Campos from the opening leg in Paris.
Liverpool cherishes 22-year-old talent Jarell Quansah, with Ibrahima Konate who is already making waves alongside Van Dijk. Landing of a star like Guehi-Wiens Palace side The on two Na-Vele Doelen in the Premier League has admitted, however, could help this period of ZOU to cause any possible impact to dampen if Van Dijk leave.
