Arsenal are keeping tabs on Dani Olmo while Barcelona are unsure whether they can sign the attacking midfielder for the second half of the season.
The Euro 2024 winner, 26, joined Barca from Red Bull Leipzig in a £52million deal last summer after starring for Spain in Germany. But his future at Camp Nou is already in doubt.
With Barcelona's financial problems already well documented, it has emerged that Olmo is only registered with La Liga until December 31. There are fears that he will no longer be able to play for Hansi Flick's team after that date.
Reports in Spain claim that this could pave the way for Olmo to leave the club on free terms due to a contract clause that would come into effect if he cannot be registered.
Both Arsenal and Manchester City are said to be monitoring the situation, as are Bayern Munich. Olmo has five goals to his name in ten league matches this season.
Barcelona chiefs Deco and club president Joan Laporta are busy trying to find a solution before the new year, which could leave them vulnerable to the approach of some of the European elite.
All eyes will be on the Gunners in January, with a number of fans keen on the idea of signing Mikel Arteta and fellow forward Mikel Arteta to boost their title hopes.
But Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp says even if Arsenal decide to sign a new number 9, there should be a place for Gabriel Jesus, who ended his long goal drought by scoring five times in a week.
Redknapp told Sky Sports about Jesus: “That was a big result. In the last week they have realized that they have another player at this club who can do a job and do it very well. It is important. He scores goals, he has to stay fit and if they sign someone else in January then so be it. But just having him, a player who can start and influence games, or even come off the bench, is so important.”
