Sporting CP Sensation Viktor Gyokeres will be the target of a number of clubs this summer, where the Swedish striker holds his cards close to his chest with regard to a possible move to Arsenal
Viktor Gyokers told former teammate Leo Ostigard that he cannot say much about a move to Arsenal at the moment. The Swedish sporty CP striker has found an incredibly sought-after prospect in the summer transfer window thanks to a remarkable Primeira Liga campaign.
After he helped his side to a competition title and a Taca de Portugal triumph in 2024/25, with 39 goals and eight assists in 33 performances, the striker was associated with movements on Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Athletico Madrid as the end. And Gyokees did not succeed in excluding a move to North London during a recent Facetime call with former Coventry teammate, Ostigard.
In a cameo appearance on the FlymodenPod -Podcast, Gyokeres was asked by host Bernt Hulsker: “Where are you going in the summer transfer window? Can you give us a hint? Is it arsenal? What are the alternatives?”
After a short smile, Gyokees answered: “We'll see. Nobody knows anything else. I wish I had a nicer answer, but that's all I can say now.”
Later in the conversation, while he said goodbye to his former teammate, Ostigard then added with a touch of joke: “Viktor! Talk to you great. See you soon and text me when everything is signed and resolved in Arsenal.” Gyokees joked: “Yes, yes for sure.”
It comes after he was asked by the media last month if he liked London during an interview after the game, to which he ignored the question and instead shared his admiration for the Portuguese capital. It is no secret that Arsenal urgently needs a striker for 2025/26.
Mikel Arteta was forced to use midfielder Mikel Merino as an improvised center, sometimes this season after Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz were offside unions due to injury. If Arsenal has had a productive goal scorer who is suitable for most of the season, the Gunners would probably have taken on a stronger challenge in the race for their first Premier League title in more than two decades.
In reality, the North -London side had to settle for second place for the third consecutive year, 10 points behind the final competition champions, Liverpool. Signing gyokeres will certainly not be an easy achievement.
In addition to having to compete with a number of Premier League and European rivals, it is thought that sport will only look to distance themselves from their talisman for a reimbursement of around £ 60 million. This is a big profit for the Primeira Liga champions, who have only taken over his services from Coventry for a reported £ 16.8 million back in the summer of 2023.
In the meantime, Sporting Head Coach, Rui Borges, has recently claimed that Gyokeres is satisfied with his current club and reporters tells after a 2-0 win over Vorroria Guimaraes: “He is very happy here. He is very connected to the game, he wants to score and he is obsessed with it.”
He added: “He is the best striker in Europe, as the figures show. He will be attractive, but I believe that if he does not go with the sport, he will remain very dedicated to the club. He feels very happy here.”
Gyokees is not the only striker that is currently being believed to consider, but RB Leipzig -attacker Benjamin Sesko is reportedly also monitored by the top of the Gunners' Top Brass. The Slovenian has proven itself in the Bundesliga this season, scored 13 goals and offers five assists.
Again, the acquisition of Sesko, however, would come to a cost-with reports that suggest that the asking price for the 22-year-old could be as high as £ 93 million, given his age and that he was contracted until 2029. In the meantime, it is said that Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are also in the race for his signature.
