Erling Haaland was omitted from the competition day for the collision of Manchester City with Liverpool on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola left the top scorer on his side after he had a knee problem last weekend during their 4-0 win over Newcastle.
Speaking earlier this week Guardiola confirmed that Haaland was bumping to return to the Etihad pending further tests.
He said: “I don't know yet. Tomorrow will know. Maybe, but I don't know. We will train today, tomorrow he will test. '
The 24-year-old, however, was not even mentioned among the substitutes when the teams were announced and will not play part, so that the first game of Premier League is marked this season that he has not characterized.
Haaland was on the couch when the city was dumped from Europe without mercy by Real Madrid, but was not called in the 3-1 loss.
Omar Marmoush will lead the line instead of Haaland on the side of Arne Slot, with Kevin De Bruyne his first Premier League start since a 6-0 win over Ipswich last month.
After coming to City last month from Bundesliga Side Eintracht Frankfurt, Marmoush opened his Premier League account with a stunning hat trick in the first half against the Magpies last Saturday.
The city is also without John Stones for the visit of the Premier League leaders after the English International was taken against Real on Wednesday after only eight minutes.
