Hansi Flick: Defensive performances can win Barcelona the La Liga title

Hansi Flick greeted the defensive grit of his Barcelona players while binding a 1-0 La Liga victory at Leganes.

The Catalans go back to the north with a seven -point lead at the top of the table with Real Madrid in action on Sunday in Alaves.

Barcelona was far from their best in Madrid, and they needed some luck to cross the line, while Jorge Saenz's own goal won the victory.

The visitors did not succeed in registering a shot on goal until the 70th minute, and they could not find a second goal, because Leganes insisted on a late equalizer.

Flick admitted that winning this kind of tricky game is vital in a title run and he praised Inigo Martinez for a goal -saving block.

“It was a very tough and important competition for us. I am very proud of what my team has done in recent weeks and months”, according to quotes from Marca.

“What is particularly striking is the commitment of each player.

“Sometimes you may think that they are matches against Dortmund or Atletico who win titles, but they are such games.

“I am very proud of the team and how they defended. The last act by Martínez in the game was perfect.”

Van Flick is expected to rotate his starting team on the road in the midweek in Borussia Dortmund, but with most of the job after a 4-0 UEFA Champions League First Been victory, he will withhold some players for competition campaign.

Alejandro Balde was forced at Leganes, and will probably miss Ronald Araujo with a small issue.

Barcelona is then confronted with two Home League matches to complete April, while Celta Vigo and Mallorca go to Catalonia, prior to the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid on 26 April.
