Hansi Flick ‘dreaming’ of Bayern Munich recruit with Barcelona preference

Barcelona are back within their salary cap three years after activating their 'economic levers', albeit by selling more assets. While the Blaugrana still need to raise money to make deals, this hasn't stopped them from keeping an eye on their next star recruits.

One of the favorite signings, at least in the eyes of manager Hansi Flick, is the creative midfielder Jamal Musiala from Bayern Munich. The Germany international was made his Bayern debut by Flick, and the pair also worked together as part of the Mannschaft operation before Flick's dismissal.

Musiala is currently in contract negotiations with Bayern as they look to extend his contract beyond the current deal until 2026. It is a deal that is about to be completed by the Bavarian giants. However, Sport reports that even if he signs a new contract with Bayern, it will include a 'more or less' affordable release clause, keeping the door open for a move, whether to Barcelona or elsewhere. Their problem would undoubtedly be finding a way to fit Musiala within their salary cap, a likely significant wage at that.

Barcelona believe that a move for the likes of Frenkie de Jong could be the key to getting a deal done, if his significant wages are not on the books. Real Madrid have been linked with Musiala a lot lately, but it seems they have given up hope of signing him cheaply now that his contract is up.

Musiala has previously expressed his affection for Barcelona, with Lionel Messi also being his idol at the time. It seems difficult to imagine Barcelona investing heavily in Musiala, despite Flick's wishes. Not least because they have a number of similar options to Musiala behind the attackers.

Few if any managers would turn their noses up at the prospect of having Musiala, but the presence of Pedri, Gavi, Fermin Lopez and of course last summer's big signing Dani Olmo can all play in similar areas to Musiala, albeit with different characteristics . .
