Barcelona boss Hansi Flick is convinced that Lamine Yamal can manage his own game tax in the campaign run-in.
The 17-year-old was asked to play 90 minutes in the midweek when Barcelona returned from the international break with a 3-0 win over Osasuna.
The decision to move the game outside the FIFA window of 72 hours between the matches between matches was objected by Barcelona and Osasuna – but the date was.
His start in that match came on the back of starting both UEFA Nations League matches from Spain against the Netherlands, and played more than 120 minutes in the second road victory for the Luis de la Fuente team.
From Barcelona's 28 LA Liga matches so far this season, Lamine Yamal has started with 23 and completed 90+ minutes in all but one after all matches, as an underlining of his growing interest.
Van Flick is expected to keep the teenager in his starting team for their derby collision with Girona tomorrow, despite rumors that he could let him rest, and the former boss of Bayern Munich indicated that the player himself will also play a role in his physical maintenance.
“I think Lamine is a very intelligent player; he knows how to manage the game. I spoke to him this morning to see how he feels, and the answer has been very positive. I always tell the players to tell me if they have any discomfort or whatever”, according to quotes from Marca.
“They are also responsible for their own bodies. My experience as a player is that if you feel discomfort and do not pay attention to it, you can get injured. I tell the players that message.”
Barcelona is preparing for a full schedule in April, with the Girona match quickly followed by a Copa del Rey Semi Semi Final Second Leg Trip to Rivals Atletico Madrid only three days later, with the same level after a 4-4 thriller in the first meeting.
