Harry Kane injury confirmed by Bayern – but they refuse to set date on return
Harry Kane will be sidelined “for the time being” after suffering a minor hamstring tear, his club Bayern Munich has announced.
The England striker had to leave the field just 33 minutes into Bayern's 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Manager Vincent Kompany said after the match that Kane did not believe the injury was serious and that he would undergo a scan to determine the extent of the problem.
However, an update on Sunday morning on the club's website read: “Harry Kane suffered a minor muscle injury in his right hamstring during FC Bayern's Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund yesterday.
“This was confirmed by a scan carried out by the FC Bayern medical unit. Bayern will therefore have to make do without the 31-year-old Kane for the time being.”
Kane has enjoyed another strong start to the season for the German giants, scoring 20 goals in 19 games in all competitions.
Bayern have five more games before a break over Christmas, with Tuesday's DFB-Pokal match against Bayer Leverkusen followed by league games against Heidenheim, Mainz and RB Leipzig and a Champions League meeting with Shakhtar Donetsk.
Jamal Musiala scored the equalizer for Bayern at the Westfalenstadion on Saturday, but admitted Die Roten did not start the match well enough – and that ultimately cost them all three points.
He said: “We knew we didn't play the way we wanted in the first half. We approached the second half well, created chances and showed our mentality. Unfortunately today it wasn't enough for a win, but it was important to get a secure a point. Now we look forward to the match against Bayer [Leverkusen].
“It will be a crucial match and we have to stay fresh for the full 90 minutes.”
