Harry Kane limps off after going down injured in Bayern Munich’s clash with Borussia Dortmund
Harry Kane was knocked out injured during the first half of the match between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
Despite Bayern controlling much of the early part of the match, Jamie Gittins fired Dortmund ahead against the run of play, with the England youth international opening the scoring after 27 minutes in Der Klassiker.
Just minutes later, Kane went off the ball and could be seen holding his left leg, with the severity of the problem immediately apparent as he signaled to Bayern's medical staff.
The England captain received treatment on the pitch but was ultimately unable to continue and limped off to be replaced by experienced striker Thomas Muller at the Signal Iduna Park.
Kane's condition will be a major concern for Bayern boss Vincent Kompany as the Belgian looks to return Die Roten to the top flight of German football in his first season in Bavaria.
After being named the Bundesliga's top scorer in his first season at the club, Kane continues where he left off this season.
In 11 league matches leading up to Saturday's showdown, Kane scored 14 goals and added seven assists.
The 31-year-old has proven to be equally productive in Europe, with five goals from five starts in the Champions League as Bayern sit 13th in the league's revamped format.
Another interested observer regarding the severity of Kane's injury will undoubtedly be new England manager Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel will take charge of the Three Lions on January 1 and the pair had a strong relationship during their short time together at Bayern.
Speaking about Tuchel after his appointment earlier this month, Kane emphasized that Tuchel is the best man for the job.
“I didn't expect it,” Kane told ITV. 'I worked with Thomas last year and had a very good relationship with him. I expected him to return to club football, but I was pleasantly surprised.
'He was a big part of me when I went to Bayern Munich. He is an all-round great person and I feel he will bring a lot of energy and passion to the team
'You have to try to pick the best coach to win a big tournament and we are at that stage now. The only step is winning and Thomas brings a winning mentality. Especially at tournaments, something he excels at.
'Tactically he is one of the best managers around. He had a certain way of playing at Bayern, but it was different at Chelsea, so it will be interesting to see how he sees us. Tactically, he has a great brain and he understands all the little things that matter.”
