Harry Maguire seems to expand his stay in Manchester United and is convinced that the Feelgood factor is back in Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim this season
Harry Maguire has suggested that he is open to expanding his stay in Manchester United, but says that discussions about a new contract may take place for less than a few months.
The defender, who came from Leicester City six years ago in a £ 80 million deal, said that although he has a clear idea about his own ambitions, he remains focused on the present and is encouraged by the changes that are made behind the scenes after the last year of his current deal.
Maguire, speaking after United lost their Premier League opener to Arsenal, also praised the return of a Feelgood factor to the dressing room after last season's stinker when they finished 15th in the Premier League and the Europa League finals lost to Tottenham Hotspur.
“In the coming months they will sit down and we will have a conversation about where we want to go and whether they want to expand,” Maguire said. “I have something in my mind about what I want to do and what I want to be. It is a great club to play for and you would be stupid if you wanted to stand out as quickly as possible.”
Maguire praised the influence of technical director Jason Wilcox and the current management team. And he has convinced that the club will be sent in the right direction after a difficult previous campaign.
“The hierarchy has arrived, with Jason and the manager, and I feel they are taking it in the right direction,” he said. “Since I started until now six years ago, it is in a completely different place in terms of the structure behind the management staff. We are in a good place. Much better place.”
Thinking about last season's struggles, the international of England admitted that it had been morally low because the team slid out of the battle in the interior. But he believes that this year will be a stronger challenge in the Premier League.
“Last season was so difficult – February, March, we have nothing to play for. It was really difficult,” Maguire added.
“Apart from the Europa League, everyone concentrated on that. But if you are beaten up in the Premier League, it still stacks you on you. So this season you will see much more competition from us in the Premier League.”
