Havertz in contention to return for Arsenal’s clash with Newcastle

Arsenal -Manager Mikel Arteta spoke with the media prior to this weekend's collision with Newcastle United.

With both parties able to confirm their place in the Champions League of next season with a win, both will all go out to secure three points.

The Gunners will also be reinforced by the return of Kai Havertz and Declan Rice, who have trained this week, which is a boost for Arteta who spoke for the first time about the German International in his press conference and if he can start this weekend.

Havertz can return to Newcastle

“We're going to decide that tomorrow. He has done certain parts of the sessions for the past two days.

“It's with the medical staff and how Kai feels. It is an honor to him and the medical staff and they have pushed. He looks in excellent condition and you see the transformation on him that is really impressive.”

Arsenal must be clinical

He then spoke about how it is the last home game of the season and how his side should take their chances against Newcastle.

“It is also our chance to finish in second place. Also in a way to thank our supporters and to take the trouble to travel everywhere.

“We will need a big one, be very clinical. How thin the margins are with (Newcastle) and how clinical we have to stand in front of them to score the goals.”

Does Arteta regret?

He was then asked if he regretted this season after a failed title race and was eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

“I will give you my word that we have done our utmost.

“I like incredible things that this team has done again in the circumstances in which we played.”

Will Pedey leave?

The Spaniard then received a question that it was the last match for some players and the contract of Thomas Peny, but remained secret.

“I would not want to talk about someone specifically. There are a few cases, we will try to show our gratitude for the time we had together and hopefully our supporters can do that too.”

Squad Line is a priority

Eventually he opened himself to his team that was aligned for what a very busy summer transfer window should be for the Gunners.

“Yes, about what we have to do, yes. And what we can do, I don't know.

“I think that sometimes the plan we had and actually what we could do, we could never replicate it exactly. This is football, it happens, I think, for every football club. That's why we plan certain ways and, if we can't, we do something else.

“I think the goal is clear and then you just have to do it slowly, thing by thing and starting to achieve. A large part of it is keeping it and making sure that the players who are happy here, they feel appreciated and they are willing to continue with us. That is very, very important.”
