It has been the week for Paris Saint-Germain striker Desiré Doué (19). After scoring the winning penalty in the Champions League round of 16 against Liverpool to see PSG to the quarterfinals, the former Rennes-Man has now earned his first senior call-up to the French national team.
Didier Deschamps announced a 24-member team this afternoon, while Les Bleus opposite Croatia is confronted in a quarter-final double header of Nations League that will take place on the 20 and 23 March. DESchamp's justified his Doué choice of Doué during his press conference and said it was the “right moment” to call the 19-year-old and that he “has done everything right” with his club in recent months with his club PSG. “He has made a lot of progress,” said Deschamps. “I could have called him later,” Deschamps admitted to the French football federation head office in Paris. Yet he justified his selection of Doué instead of Maghnes Akliouche from as Rayan Cherki of Monaco and Lyon because the young person “has the advantage of versatility in attack and midfield.”
