‘He will be champion’… Paddy Pimblett backed by GOAT legend ahead of UFC 314

Paddy Pimblett has earned a lot of praise from one of the most dominant champions in the UFC history.

'The Baddy' is set for the most difficult test of his career against Michael Chandler on UFC 314 on April 12.

Paddy Pimblett believes that a victory over the former triple Bellator champion places him at a moving distance of a shot at UFC lightweight holder Islam Makhakev, which is generally considered the number one pound-for-pond hunter in MMA.

For many, the jury is still on Pimblett's ability to compete with the very best – but he is supported to go all the way in MMA's first promotion due to the recently retired flight weight Demetrious Johnson.

Demetrious Johnson supports Paddy Pimblett to win UFC title

On Friday, the former UFC and one championship flight weight champion posted a video on YouTube.

In it is the man who believes some, the greatest hunter of all time has looked back with Alex Savvidis's fight with Alex Savvidis, which took place in Cage Warriors 90 in February 2020 and ended in a second round Flying Triangle Submission victory for the British fan favorite.

'Mighty Mouse' emphasized the qualities that Pimblett make an exciting hunter to look at before he supports him to eventually become a world champion at the UFC.

“That's why he's so good,” said Demetrious Johnson.

“I think he will become a champion one day. If he doesn't become a champion, it is one of the boys who were really good and never became champions. Like a Urijah Faber or Joseph Benavidez.

“Like, he does everything well, in this fight, at this time of his career, and when he fought against Bobby Green.”

Paddy Pimblett predicts a rapid finish on UFC 314

Pimblett and Chandler recently united for a joint interview to promote their UFC 314 fight.

The rising star has already publicly predicted that he will finish Chandler within two rounds.

Pimblett had no problem to break his daring call for the man he will be confronted with next weekend in Miami.

“He has fought the best light weights in the division for the past five years, but I think I will show it more easily than they,” he said during an interview with ESPN MMA. “They play in Mike's style, they stand and fight with him.

“I think this fight is going everywhere, I am going to win. The only way I lose here is when I am hit by a large, crazy wild shot on the chin. And as you all know, scousers are not eliminated. There is no way to happen.

“I think I'm going to finish Mike in two [rounds]. As I say, I think I can end this fight everywhere. He likes to come in with his punches, so that I can see myself catching with a shot on the way inside and put it down. Or I can actually see myself subject. I see no way to be honest to be honest. “
