Bochum and Heidenheim did not succeed in alleviating their relegation fears after the struggling teams had drawn 0-0 on Friday in a tense Bundesliga meeting.
A defeat would have sentenced Bottom Club Bochum to the second layer, but a draw means that they live to fight another day and move on points on points with 17th placed Holstein Kiel.
The result was just as frustrating for Heidenheim, who remains third of the relegation play-off place, four points above Bochum and Kiel, but four behind Hoffenheim, who have a competition in hand.
In a first half without opportunities, appropriate to the position of both teams in the competition, Bochum was better in the last third part, with Giorgos Masouras and Myron Boadu Kevin Muller testing.
Heidenheim then lost goalkeeper Muller to an injury in the 50th minute, when he was picked up on a stretcher after a goal collision with visiting midfielder Ibrahima Sissoko.
Marvin Pieringer registered the first shot of Heidenheim on the goal in the 75th minute, although Frank Schmidt's team never looked like the scoreboard in the game.
Both teams will look nervously on Saturday at the collision of Holstein Kiel with Ausgburg, while St. Pauli and Hoffenheim can survive with victories over Stuttgart and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Data Debrief: Nerves take over
The pressure that this relegation six-guide showed in the Voith-Arena, with both teams that are afraid to make mistakes to prevent a result from defending their campaign.
