The Spain coach Montse Tome said that “sporting reasons” led to the 2023 World Cup winner Jennifer Hermoso who has been left out of her latest team.
On Friday, Tome announced her team of 23 players for the upcoming Women's Nations League Double header with Portugal.
Hermoso, who was kissed controversially by Luis Rubiales after the World Cup Final 2023, has not played for her country since October last year.
However, Tome has made it clear that her decision has nothing to do with matters outside the field.
“There is no other reason than a sporty,” Tome said. “We have evaluated Jenni. We know she is working on it [back] to the national team.
“She was in our provisional team, which means she is doing things well. We believe that the 23 players we have chosen are the ones we need for these two games.”

Hermoso is the leading scorer of Spain with 57 goals in 123 performances, and last week revealed her desire to return to the national team that was set up. That is something that Tome says remains a possibility.
Jenni is and is an important player, “she said.” Her versions have been demanded in the past month. I was told and I am aware that she would like to continue working to come to the national team.
“I often said that no door is closed for a player. It is our job to choose the best players based on our needs. Not all of them can come.
“At the moment we have 71 players in the provisional team. She is a player who has experience who has a history in the national team.”
