Manchester United Great Antonio Valencia is praised as a hero after he had spoken to a man from a suicide attempt.
The former captain of Red Devils, 39, is back in Ecuador after hung his boots four years ago.
Valencia spent a decade in Old Trafford and won two Premier League titles and the Europa League.
The right back also had three Premier League seasons with Wigan and won 99 Ecuador Caps.
He unveiled his intervention earlier this week after he saw a young man who prepared to jump from a bridge.
Valencia posted a video on Instagram of himself and police officers who tried to bring the man down.
He wrote: “Last night [Monday] I had an experience that was far from pleasant. A boy wanted to end his life of this bridge and he was very young.
“I got out of my car and approached him. I didn't save him, but yes, I tried to talk to him.
“Thank good he recognized me. I tried to say a few words to motivate him, and it was very difficult.
'Thank good his family members arrived and he decided not to take his life.
“Please, let's take care of ourselves, our mind and our hearts.
“Mental health is very important. Please, let's all worry – life is very vulnerable.”
Fulham -Vleugel player Andreas Pereira paid tribute to his former united teammate Valencia.
The Brazilian Aas wrote on Instagram: “Great work, brother.
“You always try to help others. Well done, Bro.”
The post from Valencia has since received more than 42,000 likes.
He also won a FA Cup and two competition cups with United after a £ 16 million relocation from Wigan in 2009.
The versatile AAS left the Red Devils ten years later and ended his career at LDU Quito and the Mexican club Queretaro.
