Colby Covington says Jon Jones is 'scared' of Tom Aspinall
At UFC 309, Jon Jones delivered a destructive performance, finishing Stipe Miocic with a spinning back kick in the third round.
Unfortunately, while the name on his resume looks excellent on paper, the Croatian-American, who previously dazzled audiences with his thunderous power punches and slick boxing skills, was in reality a shadow of the fighter he used to be.
And that's exactly why fans said in the lead-up that they would much rather see a clash between 'Bones' and Tom Aspinall.
Unfortunately, even with this weekend in the rearview mirror, the two-weight champion is still reluctant to face the Englishman, infuriating Colby Covington.
WOW: Daniel Cormier talks about the heartbreaking message Jon Jones sent him
The welterweight is convinced the 37-year-old has irreparably damaged his reputation.
In an interview with Fight Hub he said: “Jon Jones is definitely afraid of him, he's avoiding him, he doesn't want to fight Tom Aspinall. That's why he says: 'I'm giving up the title and fighting the number ten'.
“He's fucking scared. Why do people think Jon Jones is the goat? He literally destroyed his legacy by avoiding Tom Aspinall. The man is damned; he is a coward.”
Jon Jones says Tom Aspinall did one thing that really annoyed him
With his shot at Jones seemingly slipping through his fingers, Aspinall has done his level best to get the fight he so desperately wants.
As a testament to his resilience, he continues to shout the champion's name, hoping that the heavyweight king will eventually give him a shot at the throne.
But there's one thing in particular that Jones has admitted is really getting in his way.
