Hojlund comments speak volumes as Man Utd ‘eye up two expensive transfers’

Rasmus Hojlund is confident he can become Manchester United's leading marksman despite the Red Devils being linked with two high-profile strikers.

The 21-year-old attacker, who signed for United from Atalanta in the summer of 2023, scored ten goals in thirty games last season. And while his success rate continues to shine brightly in this season's Europa League campaign – with five goals from six games – he has failed to find his shooting boots in the Premier League this season.

With just two goals from 15 games, questions are being raised about United's firepower at the top – especially against the backdrop of six wins, five draws and nine defeats. Both midfielder Bruno Fernandes and outcast Marcus Rashford have beaten Hojlund in the competition, with four goals each.

Nevertheless, the enthusiastic young striker is determined to prove his worth at Old Trafford. Speaking to The United Stand, he was optimistic about his prospects, explaining: “I think last season as top scorer for the team I showed that I can score my goals.

“I'm still very young, but obviously I want to take responsibility and that's why I took number nine this year, because I think I want to take the next level, the next step. I still have a lot to go, I I'm still not the finished article, I'm only 21.”

Asked whether he believes Ruben Amorim's system offers him more support than that of former director Erik ten Hag, Hojlund added: “I don't know, we'll see.”

Despite drawing 2-2 with league leaders and fierce rivals Liverpool in their most recent outing, United have recorded just one win from their last five games. And with the January transfer window now open, the Red Devils have been linked with a number of high-level attackers to help strengthen their squad, the Manchester Evening News reports.

United are primarily linked with a move for Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray. The Nigerian striker is currently enjoying a loan spell in the Turkish Super-Lig from his parent club Napoli. However, there is reportedly a termination clause in his agreement, which could see his loan terminated early if a club makes a suitable offer for a permanent contract.

Reports suggest that both United and Osimhen are interested in a deal, but it won't be cheap. The 26-year-old forward, who has a year left on his Napoli contract, comes with a hefty £75m release clause. He has been in good form for Galatasaray this season, scoring ten goals and providing three assists, while also shining in the Europa League.

In other news, United have reportedly shown interest in Paris Saint-Germain's Randal Kolo Muani. The Athletic suggests that the Red Devils, along with Spurs and Juventus, are considering a loan for the striker. However, a short-term agreement with a purchase clause would also be expensive.

Since his £77million transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt in September 2023, he has struggled to make an impact at the Parc des Princes. The Nantes academy graduate, who has scored just twice in 14 appearances for PSG this season, could benefit from a change of scenery.
