Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler used a cigarette lighter to generate their stunning 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup.
The seagulls were beaten 7-0 last Saturday by Nottingham Forest and had to respond desperately to the blues last night.
The preparation started on the game on Monday morning, with Hurzeler found an unusual way to start again.
The 31-year-old manager took a cigarette lighter and burned the tactical paperwork that was used to prepare for the forest game.
Hurzeler did this for the entire team and held one-on-one meetings with different players, according to athletics.
It turned out to be the start of a remarkable turning point when Brighton booked their place in the fifth round with a comeback victory in Chelsea.
Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen made a HBLER in the first five minutes to give the visitors a 1-0 lead before attacking by Georginio Rutter and Kaoru Mitoma Sealed victory.
Hurzeler said about the implementation: “Of course they showed a reaction, great intensity in training.
“But on the other hand that is only because of one game. Normally you have to have intensity all season.
“We were honest with each other that our standards were not high enough and that we did not demand enough from each other, not ruthless enough.
“Maybe we accept the lack of intensity, which if I am a player, we will not commit 100 percent training.
“We said we have to commit now, are a team that is difficult to beat. We must have the standards in the last two training sessions for the rest of the season.”
Brighton has the chance to beat Chelsea again on Friday while they meet in the Premier League.
