How Hansi Flick will try to solve Barcelona’s Liga crisis
Barcelona looked to be flying as high as they have in a while after wins over Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, but have since fallen down to earth. Three games without a win in La Liga has wiped out their lead in La Liga, despite several calls for attention from Hansi Flick.
The German manager has no time to change anything tactically, apart from minor nuances in his team's play before they take on RCD Mallorca, Real Betis and then Borussia Dortmund, all away from home. As such, Sport says he will double down on the current methodology but continue to emphasize mental and physical dedication as the keys to successfully executing their plans.
Flick will stand by his players in adversity, and throughout his career he has favored dialogue over dictation when problems arise – that will be the case again in this situation. Las Palmas, Celta Vigo and Real Sociedad have shown how to beat Barcelona's press, but Barcelona believe their own mistakes are partly responsible.
The former Bayern Munich coach has received a hero's welcome in Catalonia in recent months, but further negative results will raise serious doubts among the public – and perhaps the players – about the high offside line they have played. However, the return of Lamine Yamal and Marc Casado should heighten expectations in the coming weeks.
