Lee Carsley may think that English football lacks a range of talented no. 9s – but Liam Delap can be proven that there is an old -fashioned center, directly under his nose.
In his exclusive sit-down, Carsley explained with postal sport that England is missing in two important areas of the field, one of which was at the top during the pointed department behind Talisman Harry Kane.
But Delap, who scored 10 goals in the Premier League in the Premier League in his first season, is a traditional no. 9 skills that are not phased out of the game.
“100 percent not,” Delap said, when he was asked if his position was out of fashion. 'I think it is an important role of the team, just like every position.
'The strikers are probably more criticized if they don't score or help, but I think there is always a team and everyone needs a striker!
'Whether you play well and do not score or score, I think it is important. I don't think it's out of fashion. '
Hold-Up Play is an area in which Delap has drawn praise, but he believes he can get even better.
His strength at a young age is due to a multitude of factors, but struggling in the garden with Dad Rory, which is best known for his deadly long throw during his time in Stoke City, has certainly left his mark.
“I also have a brother, so it was always football and rugby in the garden and struggled,” he said.
“He is even more difficult than me, so it taught me a lot and where I got the most of them as a child.”
But at least did his father take it lightly?
'Of course not! Me and my brother were growing up the same. We kept that side that it was aggressive and boys, so it was fun. '
Delap was one of the three members of Carsley's Squad – Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace and Southampton's Taylor Harwood -Bellis the other two – who were asked to train with Thomas Tuchel and the senior team of England earlier this week that Delap gave a taste of the next decorium.
The 22-year-old is very grounded and composed, but admitted that he was surprised by how ruthless Harry Kane is, even in the training.
“He is someone I've been looking for for years and he has everything,” Delap added.
“He has had the most amazing career and he still flies, so there is someone who is so young as I look at him and then watch him live is an incredible experience.
'I had a small conversation with him, he is really a nice guy. I looked at him enough in the shooting exercise to take so much from him and he is just incredible. Don't know [specifics learned]Just everything goes in!
“His all -round game is incredible and he has been playing at the highest level for so long now, but as a striker it is something that I really like to view the best practice and it is the best I have seen.”
This summer, Delap generates a lot of interest with Chelsea and Manchester United among his many admirers.
And it promises to be a large few years with a potential large Mone movement in combination with the U21 European Championships in Slovakia this summer before he hopes to find himself on the plane to the FIFA World Cup 2026 with the seniors.
He knows that he is not the completed article and he is good at that. Delap spoke about Liverpool -pair Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are his most difficult assignment to date this season, but he has taken a lot from a campaign in which he believes that his game has improved exponentially.
“It's my first full season in the Premier League and you will always learn and improve,” he said.
'The manager and the boys of Ipswich really helped me with that and you know that I think I think I will learn as much as possible as I can and try to implement that in the next game.
'It is the quality and physicality of the Premier League that it is so intense and so high.
'I clearly got fitter as the games went. It gets the most from any time because the quality, if you make a mistake in this competition, they punish you. '
