How Ruben Amorim can shake up Man Utd by signing modern-day Eric Cantona in maverick with questionable temperament

Manchester United looks at a misfit with a questionable temperament to recalculate their wrong forward line.

He plays just behind the rush, weighs with his honest part of the goals and possesses the cheating to help others.

At the age of 25 he has a lot of experience, both here and abroad and he is a real crowd of favorite – although he never seems to be far away from controversy.

Sounds known?

There will of course only be one Eric Cantona in the eyes of the Stretford end.

But United's interest in the Brazilian Talisman of Wolves, Matheus Cunha, wonders if he could revive the man – just like King Eric did when he joined the club at the age of 26 in 1992.

Old Trafford received a good look at the AAS – which has a release clause of £ 62.5 million – in a forgetful game on Sunday and liked what they saw. It was Cunha who used his skills to win the free kick that Pablo Sarabia greatly converted in the 77th minute to guarantee Wolves's premium safety.

And with that secure now, talks about where the ex-Athletico Madrid-man could go, is warmed up.

Red Devil's coach Ruben Amorim made it a point to have a wetter with Cunha in the tunnel after the Easter Sunday.

Mind you, he almost left the cat out of the bag in his press conference for the game.

Amorim spoke about the collision with his colleague -Portuguese boss Vitor Pereira and said: “He has real quality players, Cunha and all these guys.”

When asked if that meant that he could be a target for United, Amorim rushed back and added: “I set the example because I remembered about Matheus – he scored many goals.

The attacker has 16 goals in all competitions for wolves this period – with 14 in the Prem, which is a few more than last season.

Compare that with United, who have managed one goal in four top competitions since the international break of last month.

Cunha has played in Germany and Spain and now shows in his second full season in English football that he is about.

Wolves also play a similar system like United, so it could slide directly into that hole behind the main striker.

It all sounds too good to be true – but there is the other side for him.

He collided with a member of the security personnel of Ipswich after a defeat in December, pulled out his glasses and seemed to him elbow.

However, it is far removed from the infamous Kung-Fu-Trap of Cantona in 1995 in Crystal Palace.

The 13-CAP star also received a spell of four games after his red card for a wild attack on Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez during a FA Cup-equal game last month.

Wolves fans love him despite his imperfections, but he even tested their patience recently.

Although he only signed a new contract in Molineux in January, he suggested in an interview that he could look elsewhere to fulfill his ambitions.

Cunha said: “Now we are close to staying. But I have made it clear that I have to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”

He quickly claimed that his comments were misinterpreted and he wants to continue with wolves.

Enough can still happen before Cunha – which will be 26 next month – is paraded on the field in the Theater of Dreams.

Qualification for next season's Champions League will have a huge impact on the United summer budget.

Attracting players of Cunha's quality will also be helped if they return to UEFA's upper table next season.

United may still have to free up some space on their wage account and Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho can be sold to make room.

But after witnessing his team, this season signed a blank for the 13th time, Amorim looks at a makeover – and he hopes that Cunha could be in the middle.
