Eddie Howe urged his Newcastle United players to do on the last day of the Premier League season after their 1-0 defeat against Arsenal on the last day of the Premier League season against Everton.
Howe watched as Declan Rice's Finish 10 minutes after the peace had sealed the victory for Arsenal, which means that the race for Champions League football is going to the thread.
The result of Newcastle sees them stay third at 66 points, level with Chelsea and Aston Villa, and a free from Manchester City, who have a competition in hand, and Nottingham Forest.
The Magpies welcome Everton on St. James' Park on the last day, knowing that a victory against the Toffees would seal a top-five finish and a return to the Champions League.
“We came under pressure at the start of the second half, and you have to ride on that storm, and we had that,” said Howe.
“Declan Rice produces that spectacular finish of that range. We have done everything to get a goal.
“From our perspective we became too passive and we became a bit sloppy on the ball. We will learn from it. You will have such times away from home.
“We have to take all the positives from that first half performance. We looked strong. Nick. [Pope] Didn't have too much to do.
“He is [Alexander Isak] I have a little swelling in a muscle in his groin. He only has seven days to make himself fit. Fingers crossed, he can get there.
“It is clearly great for everyone to look and we have to do our work against Everton.”
Howe, however, praised his team for their performance at the Emirates Stadium, especially without top scorer Alexander Isak, who was missing due to injury.
Newcastle did indeed have five shots on goal in the opening of 17 minutes of this match, but did not succeed for the rest of the game.
The magpies pushed hard for a level, with Joe Willock who wasted a golden chance in the dying minutes, but they couldn't find a way along David Raya.
“It was a really strong performance of the first half of us. We looked confident,” Howe told BBC Radio 5.
“I was really satisfied, the last action, where the finish was a bit finished.
“I can't ask the players anymore [the Emirates] Is a difficult place to come. We were probably not our best in the second half and that is what probably cost us the game. “
The Newcastle boss also praised Arsenal goalkeeper Raya for his beautiful display and said: “I also have to say that David Raya played well.”
No keeper has held more clean sheets in the Premier League this season than Raya (13, level with Matz Sels), where the Spaniard makes five rescues on Sunday.
Newcastle ended the game with an expected goals (XG) total of 1.6 to Arsenal's 0.65, and Howe believed that his side earned more from their display.
“This was one of our strongest way, but you have to score, and we didn't do that,” Howe said to Sky Sports after the game.
“We were only blamed and some good saves from their keeper. Individual players have played well, and we will take that next week.”
Newcastle created many opportunities on Sunday, but missed the services of Isak, which this season scored 23 Premier League goals.
“I don't know, it's too early to make an assessment. I think he has a chance, but I don't know,” said Howe when he was asked about the Swede's injury.
“He had a scan this morning, felt a little stiffness last night, but felt nothing during training.
“The scan showed some swelling, so we removed him from the game, and hopefully he can be ready for next week.”
