This week, Huijsen is part of the Senior Spain Squad for the first time.
The defender came to Bournemouth from Juventus last summer, after spending a part of the season with Roma.
He reminded himself: “I went to Juve at the age of 16 and went through the entire youth sector until I reached the first team. Last season I was borrowed from Roma, where I played for six months, until they bought me in England.
“The reason I went to Italy was to improve in the defense, I wanted to be more complete. In Spain I was impressed by the movement of the ball, in England because of the intensity with which they play. The high pace and direct confrontation helped me to teach me a lot.
“I have had good coaches, Iraola really influences me. Before I was with Mourinho, the Rossi, Allegri … I can only be grateful to them because they gave me opportunities. I took something from everyone, I learned from each of them.”
Asked for Jose Mourinho for his resignation last season, Huijsen added: “Yes, he called me and it was an experience. What I remember is the competitiveness that he teaches you. I learned a lot about the line of defense, although I had been with him for a short time. I would stay with him for longer.
“I also had a lot of fun with the Rossi, he was like a second father for me. In Italy, the defense is fundamental. He also helped me off the field, checked me and things like that.”
