Abu Kamara capped a difficult week with two goals as struggling Hull claimed a breathless 3-3 draw at home to league leaders Leeds.
Kamara publicly apologized on Friday for posting 'mistimed' emojis on former club Portsmouth's Instagram account following Hull's defeat to Middlesbrough on New Year's Day.
But the redemption was as satisfying as it was dramatic as he wrapped up the score with a fine early lob before scoring a precise half-volley on 89 minutes.
Leeds remain at the top of the Sky Bet Championship and are now unbeaten in eight games.
But when Ao Tanaka unleashed from the edge of the penalty area after 47 minutes, the visitors seemed to have all the cards in hand.
Dan James took advantage of desperate defending to score at the back post after 62 minutes and Leeds went 3-1 ahead when Joel Piroe smashed home a third.
Joao Pedro dragged Hull back late in the match before Kamara made a late intervention.
His opening goal after five minutes also set the tone for an end-to-end Yorkshire derby.
Mason Burstow did well to find the former Norwich winger with a screwed cross from the left of the center circle.
However, Kamara did even better with a controlled first ball movement and a wonderful lob from outside the penalty area to Illan Meslier.
Leeds rallied and could have equalized just three minutes later.
A quick counter-attack through the middle from Ethan Ampadu gave Manor Solomon a clear view of goal.
However, Solomon squandered his chance, which was well parried by Ivor Pandur.
And Solomon almost paid the price for that miss as Hull should have doubled their lead after 32 minutes.
Gustavo Puerto beat Jayden Bogle too easily on the left flank before sending a fierce ball across the goal.
Regan Slater timed his run well but poked the ball against the base of the right post when it looked easier to score.
Whatever Daniel Farke said to his players at the break clearly worked as Leeds soon restored parity.
Solomon burst into a promising area before teeing up Tanaka, who curled into the right corner of the net.
Hull kept up the momentum in the final third, but there was still a sense of inevitability to Leeds' second goal – that was the way they operated for long periods in the second half.
Solomon's cutback from the left found Bogle, whose deflected cross was not dealt with by a statuesque goalkeeper and two centre-backs lacking responsibility.
James, on the other hand, was much quicker in his step and could not miss.
Hull were overwhelmed after a brutal half-hour spell, and few in the MKM Stadium could have been too surprised when Piroe added a third on 72 minutes.
Pandur inexplicably misdirected a pass to the Dutch striker, who had space and time to shoot into the bottom right corner.
The match seemed over but Pedro provided some optimism among the Hull fans when he headed home in the 81st minute after Meslier had fumbled Sean McLoughlin's header.
Optimism turned to jubilation when Kamara whipped in a half-ball from an awkward angle after Gustavo Puerta's corner was unconvincingly cleared by Sam Byram.
