‘I already rejected Arsenal transfer once – but now I could solve their striker problems’

Arsenal reportedly made an offer to sign Dusan Vlahovic in January, three years after the striker rejected them for Juventus.

The Gunners are yet to sign a contract in the winter transfer window despite being in desperate need of a striker. Gabriel Jesus is out for the rest of the season after breaking his cruciate ligament against Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Kai Havertz continues to struggle in front of goal, with a busy schedule leaving Mikel Arteta's side short on firepower. Despite this, the Arsenal manager has been coy when asked about the possibility of bringing in new signings.

However, the Gunners have now reportedly made an offer to sign 24-year-old striker Vlahovic from Juventus on loan until the end of the season. Juve are said to have quickly rejected the offer as they would rather sell the player straight away as they would then have the money to sign a replacement.

Arsenal fans will know Vlahovic well as he was heavily linked with a move to North London in January 2022. The Gunners, who were in a similarly desperate situation at the time, made a bid of £50 million plus Lucas Torreira, which was rejected. from Fiorentina.

Vlahovic later completed a £66.6 million move to Italian giants Juve on a four-and-a-half-year contract. He later revealed that he had no intention of joining Arsenal.

“Maybe my agent knows [about Arsenal’s offer] but I didn't talk to anyone about it,” Vlahovic said in an interview with The Telegraph. “I only had one club in mind, because Juventus is Juventus. There's nothing else to say.

“And now I feel honored to get this shirt. It's incredible every time I put it on. I absolutely identify with their DNA. The personality of Juventus coincides with my personality.”

Vlahovic went on to score 40 Serie A goals in 91 games for Juventus. And while Arsenal were initially expected to wait until this summer to sign a striker, their injury situation and dwindling title aspirations may have contributed to a sense of urgency in bringing in a productive striker.

RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko has long been Arsenal's favorite target, with Arteta pursuing the Slovenian international last summer. But Sesko, who wanted to stay in Germany for another year, will not be available until the end of this season.

Newcastle's Alexander Isak is another name continually linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, although his reported record fee of £150m for Arsenal would be impossible to match this month.
