“It is really difficult to win against these top teams such as Newcastle. When we make mistakes to help the opponent, it is even more difficult. I think you can see that we can do so much better.”

The draw is nice on 2-2 prior to the confrontation in Old Trafford, where United will strive for their last cutlery of the season on the rails.

The Red Devils would secure Champions League football in the next term by going all the way into the competition, which would offer a welcome rescue for another difficult campaign.

“We can't make all the mistakes we made today,” Amorim continued. 'Of course it is really important. We have the chance to get [in the] Champions League.

“It will be very difficult. We have to concentrate on that and go to the next phase. It is a different game. We have to give something to our fans and go to the next phase.”
