Simone Inzaghi insisted that he gave everything to Inter before he moved to Al-Hilal, after the CEO of the club said that the move had been agreed before the final of the Champions League.
The Italian left in the days after their record-breaking 5-0 defeat for Paris Saint-Germain in the showpiece, with his move to Al-Hilal announced shortly thereafter.
Inzaghi left the Nerazzurri with the best win ratio of every coach in their history (all competitions, because Serie A was founded in 1929-30).
He won 65%of his matches that are in charge of the 20-meal Scudetto winners, so that he told Aldo Olivieri (63.2%), Antonio Conte (62.7%), Jose Mourinho (62%) and Luigi Simoni (61.6%).
Al-Hilal CEO Esteve Calzada, however, confirmed that the arrival of Inzaghi was in the making for a while.
“It may seem like something that came quickly, but it is the result of hard work,” Calzada told BBC Sport.
'He played a huge game and asked [us] To keep things aside until after the final. It was decided but not signed before the final, just because out of respect he asked us to wait, which is certainly fair enough. “
As such, the Italian media wondered if the team's team was aware of the move, and, if so, before the final were influenced.
Inzaghi won a Serie A title, the Coppa Italia twice, and three Supercoppa Italiana trophies during his four-year spell at Inter, although they ended up 2024-25 without silverware, with a chance of a Treble on the middle point.
And the 49-year-old said that his dedication to his work at Inter could not be questioned.
“I heard – or heard about – all kinds of things, as happened often during the four years that I was at Inter,” Inzaghi told reporters.
“If this was the price to pay for my four years at Inter, I would like to pay for it. But it is nothing compared to the good that I have received from the entire Interwereld – I mean the fans, management, the players, everyone at Inter.
“I know I will miss it – I will miss everything, even this – even the most unfair accusations that these four years were made. But I was really happy. I gave everything.”
