“I am still looking for explanations” Franck Ribery opens on Ballon d'Or Snub in 2013

The French icon Franck Ribery has revealed that he 'is still looking for an explanation' for his snub at the Ballon d'Or -Ceremony 2013.

The 41-year-old Bayern Munich led to a historic Treble and played a crucial role in their Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League victories in the 2012-13 campaign. In the calendar year 2013 he achieved 22 goals and 18 assists in 52 performances in all competitions.

That year the coveted Golden Ball was won by the Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo, who received 27.99 percent of the total votes. With 24.72 percent of the votes, Argentinian Maestro Lionel Messi became second and Ribery only succeeded 23.36 percent, making him third.

While Ronaldo (66 goals and 15 assists in 52 games) and Messi (42 goals and 15 assists in 45 games) had incredible individual seasons, the Frenchman believed that his success with Bayern made him the favorite for the title.

In a recent interview with L'Equipe, he said (via GFFN):

“I was the perfect year. I didn't do it better. This balloon d'Or will be an injustice forever. I am still looking for statements. Messi and Ronaldo have always shown me respect. They knew I was at their table. I was completely modest, in 2013 I had nothing to envy about them.”
