Anthony Johnson sent Daniel Cormier through the octagon

Throughout his career, Daniel Cormier has never shied away from putting on a show. He developed a reputation for lifting his rivals into the air before slamming them to the canvas.

However, when he first fought Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 in 2015, the esteemed wrestler found himself on the ground.

'Rumble', who tragically passed away in 2022, was one of the most likable and dangerous fighters the sport has ever seen, with dynamite in his hands.

And when Cormier hit one of his famous shots straight to the chin, he flew through the cage.

During an appearance on the Pivot Podcast, Legend chuckled: “I fought Anthony Johnson for the belt. Twenty seconds into the fight he hit me, I flew all the way over the octagon. Fell on my stomach. I stood up very quickly and hoped no one saw.”

Laughing, the host replied, “We saw it.”

Knowing full well that this was the case, Cormier exclaimed with a big grin on his face, “Everyone saw it.”

Ultimately, the Hall of Famer managed to claw his way back into the match and secure a rear-naked choke in the third round to claim a victory over a truly great opponent.

Daniel Cormier talks about the heartbreaking message Jon Jones sent him

While the rivalry with Johnson was always respectful, Cormier had much more animosity toward Jon Jones.

The pair of legends absolutely despised each other, with the fighters even going so far as to brawl in the lobby of the MGM Grand.

Ultimately, 'Bones' managed to win both fights and claim bragging rights.

However, the hatred between the two-weight champions has subsided, with Cormier revealing his nemesis offered him support when he needed it most.
