Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet has not been about his future for a number of years in a summer in a summer and has been playing for three different parties since the first time the Catalan giants on loan for Aston Villa. This season he was at a certain stage for Diego Simeone in Atletico Madrid, and Los Colchoneros will want to keep the French International.
This season Lenglet was part of the decisive collisions of Atletico, despite competing with a place with club icon Jose Maria Gimenez and big money that Robin Le Normand signed, Simeone often turned to him. Talking that Los Rojiblancos could move, however, to return Santiago Mourino from a strong season in Alaves through a return clause, which has thrown the future of Lenglet in uncertainty. Even to keep both him and Juan Musso on loan for the club World Cup, Atletico may have to pay a fee to keep them in July.
However, that doubt was cleared by President Enrique Cerezo, who has stated that the negotiations are on the horizon. The 29-year-old has already told Barcelona that he wants to stay in Atleti next season and Cerezo told TV3 that conversations were on the horizon.
“Lenglet is a Barca player. We will talk. I imagine that there will be an agreement for him to stay with us,” he explained as quoted by Sport.
The most important negotiating point is probably the salary of Lenglet. The Frenchman is one of the highest earners in Barcelona, and they are supposed to pay most of his salary when things are. It seems unlikely that they will ask a lot for compensation, but the Blaugrana will want to get the whole of his salary from their books, and it is not clear how much of the difference between what Atletico is willing to offer and his current salary that Lenglet will be willing to precede.
