A former Liverpool striker has previously said that he would be willing to discuss a possible move to Real Madrid with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is about to leave Anfield for the Bernabeu
Michael Owen has thrown his two cents in the constant saga of Trent Alexander-Arnold's potential move from Liverpool, which suggests that he would advise the player on a possible switch to Real Madrid. The ex-Reds frontman himself made the headlines in 2004 when he exchanged Anfield for a stint at the Bernabeu.
During his short enchantment in Spain, Owen scored 16 goals in 46 performances. After a year in Madrid, he joined Newcastle United in 2005 and later revealed that his real desire was to return to Liverpool – a wish that remained unfulfilled. Owen, familiar with the pressure and fine tricks of an important transfer decision, such as the person looming about Alexander-Arnold, understands what is at stake. The current Liverpool deal of the 26-year-old defender is ending, making Alexander-Arnold eligible for a free transfer in the summer and recent reports suggest that he is on his way to the Spanish capital.
“Would I be open for a chat?” Owen told the Liverpool Echo. 'Of course, if he had contacted me, yes. I have many people I speak to. I work in television, I interview people all the time.
“I treat games, I am in and around places and TV studios. I always chat with people and people ask for advice and things like that. If Trent would call me, I would of course do that.”
On the mystery to Alexander-Arnold, Owen noted that the benchmark for a decision often only comes up afterwards, musing: “There is actually no good or bad decision. The only good or bad decision is the over time, in 10 years.
“That is the only reason why you will ever say that it is a good or bad decision. While when you live it, I decided that at the time and I can't change it.
“From Trent's point of view, he will make his decision based on all the facts for him, and that will be the right thing for him at the moment.
“That is what he will have to live with forever, and I am sure he will be comfortable with that. If other people have this opinion in the future, as I say, these backlogs, then, whatever. It doesn't matter.”
In the meantime, reports from athletics that Real works to complete a deal for Alexander-Arnold. The report claims that Los Blancos is obliged to inform Liverpool if a pre-contract agreement is reached, but that has not yet happened.
It suggested that the Spanish giants have been watching the Englishman for two years. The same report adds that Real has done everything in their power since January to convince Alexander-Arnold to participate.
A star that could wait for the defender when he goes to La Liga is England teammate Jude Bellingham. Most of those who surround Alexander-Arnold have remained incredibly reluctant about his potential relocation, and Bellingham continued that trend when he asked him to the future of his pear before their Champions League collision earlier this season.
Speaking in a press conference before they went on the field, he said: “Would I want to play with Trent? I will be with him in the national team, so that will be guaranteed.
“He is a Liverpool player and talking about the future is disrespectful. The most important thing is to relieve pressure. He is a great friend and I wish him the very best. Except tomorrow.”
