I partied with Grimsby stars until 3am after giant-killing

Grimsby Town -star parties until 3 hours after a historic night under the lights, they saw the powerful Manchester United from the Carabao Cup Dumpen.

The League Two side has brought one of the greatest disturbances in English football history – but many fans had faith before the game got the continuous mess at Old Trafford.

The side of Ruben Amorim lost 12-11 on penalties after crawling back from 2-0 to scraping a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes and a result that will be remembered for years.

United was 1-7 chances to win and 56 places above Grimsby in the football pyramid and brought £ 71 million in signing Bryan Mbeumo during the break to grab a goal before Harry Magire seemed to have saved them with a rear header in the 89th minute.

Grimsby fan Rhys, 19, who was at the end last night, said to Sunsport: “It's a dream of fever. It's such a strange feeling.

“You have so much hope for the game, but to really see it playing it was incredible. It was one of the best feelings of my life.”

Rhys' earliest football memory was watching how Grimsby was relegated by Burton Albion in 2010 from the English football competition by Burton Albion.

That year United missed a fourth consecutive Premier League title after completing the second place behind Chelsea after Cristiano Ronaldo's then-British record deviation of £ 80 million to Real Madrid June 2009.

Rhys, who is a student at the University of Manchester, made sure that he called his MANC friends after Mbeumo's missed penalty won for David Artell's Kant.

The fan of Big Mariners added: “I was immediately on the phone for my grandparents because they used to be seasonal card holders at Old Trafford.

“The side of my father of the family comes from Manchester. They are all big United fans. To be honest, many of my friends who are united supporters said we 'deserved' it.

Another local fan, who operates a fish and chip can in Blundell Park and works in the café bar of Grimsby Town Station, the club revealed a big party in the clubhouse until the early hours of Thursday morning.

He said to Sunsport: “I had a few drinks with all the players, it was in the house. Totally free.

“What a night, I felt a bit worse this morning because I usually didn't drink. The united team rushed away as quickly as possible.”

United had never lost a fourth team team in the EFL Cup and played for the first time since 2014 in the second round after he was not eligible for Europe.

The Prem Giants also lost 4-0 in that match to MK Dons 11 years ago.

Transfermarkt account of the United team is worth around £ 762 million more than that of Grimsby.

But they leveled the playing field in their own stadium, which has a capacity of just over 10 percent that of Old Trafford.

As a big football fan, and with close family relationships on the Red Devils, Rhys also gave his opinion about the situation in the road.

He said: “United probably expected them to show up and hit us, but we knew they would struggle under pressure, they are so shaky at the back. We beat them man-to-man.

“It is really taking care of United, the players they have and the money they have spent, how can they play like this? We were the better team for 70 minutes.

“They could be in a relegation struggle this year. Onana was hilarious because he kept diving early and always to the left.”

Rhys hit the city with thousands of other Grimsby fans who invaded the field and sang for Amorim “to be fired in the morning” on one of the most memorable nights in football history.

He said, “We were in the Swashbuckle -Pub in Chetrophes this morning. I will never forget it.”

An honorable mention goes to the 18-year-old Academy graduate Harry Brown who sent Onana the other way after he had taken his spot kick in the right post.

New signing of Clarke Adour, who came on loan from Bradford City on Monday, was the only Grimsby player who had saved his penalty by the former Champions League finalist.

But Brazil International Matheus Cunha was unable to spare in Amorim's Bloost when his spot kick was saved by Christy Pym when the 11 of each party performed to take one.

A second round of penalties saw Darragh Burns make it 12-11 before Mbeumo's Second Spot-Kick hit the Dwarsbalk that led to an incredible throwing vasia.

Rhys will try to get hold of tickets for when Grimsby travels to Hillsborough to watch championship matches in the third round on Wednesday.
