‘I run this sport’… Jake Paul rattles boxing fans with boastful response to undisputed champion

Jake Paul has resumed his role as a 'disruptor' of professional boxing after his unanimous victory over Mike Tyson last Friday.

The social media star worked through eight two-minute rounds at AT&T Stadium, Texas, while streaming Netflix's first-ever live boxing event.

However, his uninspiring performance has been largely criticized by fans, with many doubting whether he has what it takes to become world champion.

But reaching the highest level of his sport seemingly remains the ultimate goal for Jake Paul, who has since drafted the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Gervonta Davis.

Jake Paul responds to Artur Beterbiev's call after the confrontation with Mike Tyson

Paul has cited two reasons why his performance against Mike Tyson went the distance, offering contrasting excuses for his flat performance.

Immediately after the fight, the 27-year-old claimed he simply carried his opponent to the finish as he didn't want the 58-year-old boxing legend to suffer further punishment.

However, during the same post-fight press conference, Paul also revealed that he had suffered a foot injury just two weeks before the two heavyweights clashed.

And so it's hard to say whether the one-dimensional display he produced in the ring was actually due to a new-found level of respect for Tyson or his stymied preparation.

Regardless, the former Disney star's 11th victory in professional boxing was a far cry from the declaration he may have been hoping for.

But Paul still managed to attract the attention of undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev, who invited him shortly after the match.

When Paul responded to the bona fide knockout artist on Hahahahaha. Four years later I am running this sport.”

Fans react to a fantasy matchup between Jake Paul and Artur Beterbiev

Beterbiev is boxing's longest-reigning world champion, with all but one victory coming within the distance.

And so it is somewhat surprising that Paul has declined to engage in the potential battle.

Nevertheless, boxing fans have largely focused on “The Problem Child” for his response.

One fan joked: “Beterbiev is only 39, too young for Paul.”
