Frank Lampard has unveiled “The Truth” about his fatal interim spell as Chelsea Boss.
The blues legend, 46, took the lead on the club on a temporary basis after the resignation of Graham Potter in April 2023.
Lampard spent 13 years at Chelsea as a player and is the top scorer of the club of all time with 211 goals in 648 games.
Earlier he had served as a manager between 2019 and January 2021, before a fatal term of office at Everton.
The 46-year-old was back in the temptation of the club by co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali after Potter got the boot.
But he has endured a miserable form and won only one of his 11 games.
Lampard has now lifted the lid on its short return to West London.
He said to Sky Sports: “I saw things that I know they can't be right on elite football and that is the truth.
“I didn't like to work in that short period, because it is difficult to capture an idea when you leave.”
Lampard, now manager at Coventry, insists that Chelsea 'will always be a huge club in his life'.
But he regrets the interim role and admits that “motivation was a problem”.
He continued: “But if I understand the standards of Chelsea – in that period there were many players in the transition from perhaps.
“… Motivation was a problem – you can't really influence that in an interim period.
“If you see the results, I am experienced enough to know what is good and what is wrong and fundamental things in a training field at a pitch.
“I have not learned anything tactically, but it strengthened my beliefs of all my experiences if you know what a group really fights in the same direction, how strong that can be.
“And if that is not the case, it can really be a challenge.”
Last November Lampard returned to football after more than 18 months to take over at the Sky Blues.
Coventry separated ways with Mark Robins, with Lampard since inspiring a magical form of form.
His side has set up the table from the 17th and is currently on the Play -off places, with 13 victories of their last 25 games.
Coventry owner Doug King said Talksport: “I thought we should change it and Frank was the excellent candidate.
“He came in and went on with it and in the past six weeks we had a great run to push us to the fifth.
“I have always been consistent that I thought the team was good enough to be in that position.
“But that is my opinion and the reality is something else and was different at the end of November.
“He did great. He has been great, positive, a really good people person.
“Tactically we have solved results at difficult moments when we did not have a full team.
“I am extremely satisfied for him and happy for the club.”
And Lampard's heroic deeds have led him to be tipped for the track in England.
Fellow Championship -Baas Chris Wilder said: “I have a huge amount of respect for Frank Lampard, I honestly said that.
“His gaming career is there for everyone to see, but I just like the fact that he loves football and it just keeps on.
“Tough performance at Chelsea when they did not sign players and he had to play many young players. Tough performance at Everton.
“I don't think he gets the honor he deserves, I honestly don't do that.
“People talk about English managers and people are critical of him, I just don't get it. He can easily manage England.”
