Ex-Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz could be ready for a return to the Premier League months after signing for Juventus – with Chelsea now reportedly interested in his services.
The Brazil international ended his career at Villa Park last summer when he left for the Serie A giants for £42million. However, his time in Turin did not go to plan as the midfielder struggled to get playing time under boss Thiago Motta.
Luiz has made just four starts since his move to all competitions, with Juventus reportedly open to his departure this month. The Midlands outfit are touted as a club interested in a move for their former midfielder, who made 204 appearances for the club in five years.
Villa fans certainly have fond memories of Luiz, who endeared himself to the club's supporters after signing a new contract just a month after receiving three Deadline Day bids from Arsenal in 2022.
However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, they could face him this season as Chelsea have opened talks with Juventus about signing the 26-year-old. Luiz could end up in London this month, three years after Mikel Arteta's side targeted Villa with three bids – the last of which was £25m – which then Villa boss Steven Gerrard quickly rejected.
After signing the long-term deal a month after the summer transfer window closed, Luiz spoke of his love for the club and everyone associated with it.
“I'm so happy,” he told Villa's website. “I am so happy at this club and I love this club. I love the people here, the staff and the players. I feel so comfortable here and I am so happy.”
“I love this club. This club opened the door for me when I came to England to play in the Premier League. I am so happy because I am staying here and my choice is here.”
