The former Bantamweight King did not expect to hear from a former opponent of him.
Dominick Cruz may have fought injuries for most of his career, but that did not stop him from leaving a great legacy behind.
'The Dominator' helped to place the smaller weight classes on the map during the WEC days before he came to the UFC, where he held the Bantamweight title twice.
Although his skills were unmistakable, Cruz was always a division personality that fans and his fellow hunters could easily rub in the wrong way.
The 39-year-old had a number of great rivals at the top during his time and he did not expect some resentment to be buried just because he recently announced his retirement.
Dominick Cruz reveals a message from TJ Dillashaw after his retirement
Dominick Cruz prepared for a final dance against Rob Font in Seattle this Saturday until an injury forced him to retire a little earlier than he had originally planned.
It is understandable that he received some great tribute to his career from the MMA world, but during a recent appearance on the Ariel Helwani show he said that one message had overwhelmed him.
The pride and most satisfying performance of Cruz was when he returned to the Octagon in 2016 and proved that Rest Rest was not a universal rule.
Although he no longer competes since September 2014, he immediately went into a title fight against the reigning champion, TJ Dillashaw, and emerged with the 135 pound title.
There was already a rival between them after the fight landed on a controversial decision, the beef was not completely arranged.
What tension existed earlier between them, it was now placed in the past after Cruz revealed that his former rival had sent him a positive message.
“I have received a few notes from a number of big names. One of those who noticed me was TJ Dillashaw, he actually handed me out. I was shocked. He gave me a recommendation for a shoulder doctor and he said he was looking forward to seeing me competing and it had sorry that I couldn't. “

Dominick Cruz has a lot behind him
Dominick Cruz has not always continued with other hunters, but at the end of the day it is only because of how competitive he is and that is what made him great in the first place.
'The Dominator' was also able to leave his previous rivalry with Urijah Faber behind after Cruz clashed most of his career with Team Alpha Male.
Now that Dillashaw also increases significant injuries that briefly make his career, it makes sense why the former opponents would put the past behind them.
It will probably not happen that Cruz is about his victory from time to time, but you cannot expect the man to change completely just because he is no longer an active hunter.
