‘I wowed James Maddison and won Harry Kane comparisons – Wrexham know I’m available’

Will Lankshear has been tipped for big things by Tottenham teammate James Maddison and even compared to Harry Kane.

However, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has now confirmed that the young striker could be loaned out in January to earn more minutes. Ryan Reynolds' team Wrexham were one of several clubs linked with a move for the 19-year-old during the summer transfer window, along with Championship sides Sunderland and Hull City.

Nevertheless, it was later revealed that Lankshear would be kept in the first-team squad after making a strong impression for Spurs since joining from Sheffield United for £2 million in August 2022. Last season he scored 23 goals for their under-21 team in Premier League 2, including a brace in the play-off final win over Sunderland.

The teenager's playing style and physique have led to comparisons with Spurs legend Harry Kane. Previously speaking about the Bayern Munich star's influence on his career, he told Football.London: “Harry Kane is incredible, Haaland too. I admire the two of them immensely. They are similar to me in some ways, but if I could have a quarter of their career, I would of course be very happy.

Lankshear's teammate James Maddison has also praised his prospects. In November you could hear the former Leicester midfielder hyping him up in training footage shared on the club's social media channels.

He said, 'Willy Lanks [Will Lankshear]that's a man who scores a few goals in training. There's a man to score today, let's go, big boy.” Lankshear made his Spurs first-team debut in their Europa League win over Ferencvaros in October.

He later scored his first goal for them at Galatasaray the following month, before being sent off in the same match for receiving two yellow cards. Lankshear's playing time has been limited since then, with Postecoglou admitting on Tuesday that he could be loaned out before the end of the month.

Commenting on his side's plans during the January transfer window, the Australian said: “Some of the young players like Alfie Dorrington have gone out on loan and we will probably do the same for young Will (Lankshear) because he hasn't really played much In addition, we look at the incoming messages if something happens.”

It leaves the door wide open for ambitious Wrexham to look at a striker move again as they battle for promotion to the Championship. Phil Parkinson's side currently sit third in League One, just below Birmingham City and Wycombe Wanderers in the table.

The Hollywood-backed team were linked with a number of strikers in January, with talisman Paul Mullin struggling to score this season. The 30-year-old has scored just twice in the league so far this season after undergoing back surgery over the summer.

It has been confirmed that Parkinson will be well supported this month by Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The Welsh team's plans were discussed by club director and former EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey at an event in New York in November.

As reported by Wales Online, he said: “Rob and Ryan have always supported Phil's ambition. We will be active in the transfer market in January because we are in a strong position. If we go beyond where we are now, we'll get promoted, and that's the goal.”

Parkinson himself said he would make additions if the right quality players became available, and Lankshear would certainly fit that bill. The manager told the BBC earlier this month: “We are looking for the players we have identified and like any other transfer window they are difficult to get. They will have to improve what we have, which will not be easy.”
