Ian Machado Garry confuses fans by claiming he’s ‘more Brazilian’ than Carlos Prates ahead of UFC Kansas City

Ian Machado Garry confused the fan base with a remark prior to his UFC Kansas City Main Event against Carlos Prates.

Despite the suffering of his first loss in the sport against Shavkat Rakhmonov on UFC 310, Ian Machado Garry felt hard to miss the Welteregewet title after Rakhmonov announced that an injury would not allow him to fight to combat Belal Muhammad.

Instead, 'The Future' a late notification was offered to the UFC Kansas City Main Event against the rising Carlos Prates.

In anticipation of their large welter weight fight, Machado Garry claimed that Prates 'is not a real hunter', which resulted in retribution of the Brazilian.

Ian Machado Garry claims that he is 'more Brazilian' than prates

Despite the representation of Ireland, the 27-year-old does not live or train in Ireland and lives in Brazil instead, where he is now training at Chute Boxe.

Machado Garry is never nailed to one specific gym or team and has always stated how he believes that it is important to train in different places to pick up as much knowledge as possible.

During the use of this strategy, however, the Irishman confronted various problems and last year he was kicked from the Leon Edwards gym after a disagreement with the coaching staff.

Machado Garry now lives in Brazil and has made a controversial claim that he is 'more Brazilian' than his opponent, Prates, who was born in São Paulo, Brazil.

“Look, the guy smokes American cigarettes. Drink Irish whiskey. In the meantime I am in Brazil with (Acai and Pacoquinha). I am more Brazilian than this guy. I have his whole country that I want me to win,” said Machado Garry on the UFC Kansas City Media Day.

Although he was a rising profit streak in the best promotion, Prates admitted that he still smokes an obscene number of cigarettes during his camp.

“That is his life choices, that is not for me to get involved, he can do what he wants with his life, and we can all sit here and talk about it. At the end of the day, Saturday night, he goes into the Octagon with someone who is a complete professional, I will continue to manner,” Machado Garry continued.

Ian Machado Garry wants to make the first title defense against Islam Makhachev

With a victory over 'The Nightmare' on Saturday evening, the 27-year-old believes that he will fight next to the title.

Muhammad is planned to defend his title on UFC 315 against Jack della Maddalena, and Machado Garry believes that he will stand in line to face the winner.

Another step further, the Irishman has stated that 'when' he wins the title, he wants to make his first title defense against Islam Makhachev, who continues to tease a movement up to 170 pounds.

“I believe that Belal will win in Canada against Jack della Maddalena … And then I know that there are team complications with Belal, he doesn't want to fight against Islam because of the training and things like that, so then I fight Belal and I will beat.

“And then there is a choice, I defend against the pound-for-pound number one in Islam Makhachev and welcome him to the Welterweight Division, or I fight against Shavkat Rakhmonov after he has come from his injury.”
