Ian Wright points finger over Arsenal tactic in PSG loss – ‘Very surprised’

Arsenal has it all to do if they want to make the Champions League final after their loss against PSG and Ian Wright has questioned one aspect of the performance of the Gunners

Ian Wright admits that he is surprised that Arsenal did not immediately try to stifle Paris Saint-Germain from the off in the first stage of their Champions League semi-final draw, which the French giants won 1-0.

PSG will have a slim advantage when the men from Mikel Arteta will travel to Paris next week in the pursuit of a place in the Champions League final. Ousmane Dembele plundered the only goal of the game at the Emirates within the first four minutes.

The side of Luis Enrique has won many hearts during the campaign for their Swashbuckling Throwback style and are depicted by many to continue and win the tournament.

But even, despite PSG's wild attacking approach and stars -lined team, Wright is disappointed that Arsenal did not try to bring the game to their opponents.

Speaking on Wrighty's House's podcast, said Gunners' favorite: “I don't want to be negative about the team, but I am very surprised by the start of the game. I didn't expect that start. To be honest, I expected PSG to go back, but it was the other way around, it was the opposite. We shouldn't press them.

“I think we really missed a trick in the way we started, we did not take advantage of the crowd that were ready to scream and shout. I think we really got away because we didn't start the way I thought we would do that, I was very surprised by that.

“I would like to hear the interview after Mikel Arteta's match, because I want to hear what he says about the start. I cannot understand that you are a team like PSG with you and your tactics are to sit down and have them play it from behind and convenience on the halfway.”

Although they go to France and have to destroy a shortage in the second stage, Arsenal are still very much in the draw. But Arteta admitted after the game that the Gunners 'have to do something special' if they want to make the Champions League final for the second time in the club's history.

“If you want to win the final of the Champions League, you have to do something special. We have to do something special in Paris to be there,” said Arteta.
