Ian Wright believes that Liam Delap would be the perfect signature for Manchester United in the summer.
The Red Devils have passed a difficult 2024-25 campaign and are probably active on the transfer market this summer to give Ruben Amorim the foundations to restore the club as a force in the Premier League.
Goals are hard to find for United and both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee – a summer signature from Bologna – have been criticized this term.
It is expected that Amorim will look for a new striker prior to the 2025-26 campaign and a move for Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres has been disputed in view of the success they enjoyed in Portugal – but Wright thinks that United should dive to Delap instead After looking at the Ipswich Town Frontman this term.
Wright spoke on the Huispodcast of Wrighty's House about the need of United on Doelen and said: “Go and get Delap. The thing is that he has that hunger and respect for everyone and it feels just like the kind of player they need.
“They need such a hero and he is a hero waiting to happen. He is hungry.”
Whether or not a deal for Delap would be feasible is another matter. After looting nine Premier League goals for the Tractor Boys this season, other clubs are already credited with an interest in the former Manchester City man, including Chelsea.
Regardless of whether it is Delap or someone else who comes in to try to get more goals for United, Wright started to point out that there are many other problems that also sort when Amorim has to let the club go again.
He added: “Of course Zirkzee came up (recently against Leicester) and he has one, but I don't think they have put the ball enough in the box. I don't think there is someone in the box for when the cross comes in.
“They lose the ball and then teams can break on them. There is no structure or they will try to play by teams or around them. So the attackers do not know what is coming. They don't get the kind of service they depend on.
“When did you last see a man United player score a goal in which he passed a man opposite an almost post? You don't see those goals from Man United.”
